Puppies

When you get your new puppy, please do give us a call so we can share in the good news! We can then book the first check up appointment.

You may want to do this in the first day or two, or wait several days until they have settled in with you.

We will give you a double appointment as there are often a lot of questions when there’s a new baby in the house!

The puppy check is free of charge

Having puppies come to visit us is one of the highlights of our work, and treats will be supplied and cuddles will be on hand to make your puppy feel happy and relaxed with us

We think it’s important to sort out any problems as soon as they occur, and so we offer a monthly nurse consultation until your puppy is 6 months old. This is a time when puppies can be weighed so we can supply the correct dose of wormer, and the nurses can help you with any problems or worries you may have.

These nurse check ups are free of charge

Feeding

There are many varied ways to feed but we can give you our best advice based on many years of puppy experience. We recommend a complete puppy food, either dry or with some wet food added in,  until they are fully grown. This will give their bones and joints the best start in life.

We particularly like Royal Canin, Hills and Purina foods

Parasite Control

On your puppy’s first visit, it is always helpful if you are able to bring in the information you have from the breeder. A good breeder will have written down for you exactly what products they have given and when they have given them.

Your puppy will need monthly treatments against lungworm, roundworm, fleas and ticks. A tape wormer should be used every 3 months

Vaccination

Your puppy will need to be vaccinated against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Leptospirosis.

We usually do the first vaccination at 8 weeks of age or over, and your puppy must be 10 weeks or over for the second vaccination.

Your puppy can go into your garden, as long as it is enclosed and safe, when you get them home, but should not go out for walks or meet other dogs until a week after the second vaccination

Microchip

It is a legal requirement that  your puppy is microchipped, but if this has been overlooked by the breeder it is a simple procedure which we can perform at vaccination time

If the microchip is already in place please make sure that you change the registration details to your own name, address and telephone number on the data base. The nurses can advise you on how to do this

All dogs must wear a collar and tag when out in public
